Forests account for 11.5% of Uganda's land and are vital to the nation's ecosystem. They provide timber, food, fuel, and medicines for many Ugandans. However, this green heart of Africa is facing a serious challenge.

The Forum on Tropical Forestry, held in Cologne, Germany on 22 May 2025, brought together 60 European and African delegates to discuss the future of the Congo Basin. Organized by FSC Germany in concert with WWF Germany and ATIBT, the gathering focused on responsible forest management and certification, vital for the region's people, states, and biodiversity.

The 2022 Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) General Assembly in Bali, Indonesia, approved Motion 23, which mandates the integration of a locally adapted landscape approach for the protection of Intact Forest Landscapes (IFLs).
